World Cuisine, Drawn Country by Country

Every country has a table. This is the archive of what is on it — researched, illustrated and gathered into one growing atlas.

An atlas organised by dinner

Borders explain very little about how people eat. Rice, chilli, olive oil and flatbread all travelled long before passports existed, and the most interesting food cultures sit exactly where those routes crossed. The Maison Maps archive follows that logic: each country collection begins with research into the dishes people actually cook — street food, holiday food, weeknight food — before a single illustration is drawn.

Regions, not just countries

Mediterranean kitchens share a pantry; West African kitchens share a technique; Caribbean kitchens share a history. Browsing by region often turns up the collection you were really looking for — the one from the island next to the one you searched for, the one your neighbour's family came from.

Why illustration and not photography

Photography flattens food into one restaurant's version of a dish. Illustration can hold forty dishes in one frame, keep them equal in weight, and let a viewer read the whole cuisine at a glance. It also ages far better on a wall — an illustrated plate of dumplings will not look like a 2020s food-styling trend in ten years.

Where to start

Open the country index for the full alphabetical archive, or read an editorial if you would rather arrive through a story than a list. Each editorial pairs long-form writing about a country's food culture with the collection it produced.

Questions

Frequently asked

What counts as world cuisine?
Any national or regional cooking tradition with its own pantry, techniques and rituals — from Italian and Japanese to Guyanese, Maltese and Curaçaoan.
How many countries does Maison Maps cover?
More than a hundred collections, with new countries added continuously. Every new country automatically receives a landing page, an editorial and its own product range.
Can I request a country?
Yes — requests shape the release order, and countries with strong diaspora communities in the United States are usually prioritised.
Are the dishes researched or generic?
Each collection is researched dish by dish, including regional spellings and the everyday food that rarely makes it into tourist guides.
