Coconut rice wrapped in banana leaf for breakfast. Laksa at the hawker stall. Roti canai torn and dipped in curry at any hour of the day. Malaysia eats across three kitchens at once, and rarely stops.
Chapter One
Three kitchens, one table
Malay, Chinese and Indian cooking sit side by side in Malaysia — often on the same street, sometimes on the same plate. Nasi lemak arrives with sambal, anchovies, peanuts and egg; char kway teow comes smoky from the wok; roti canai is pulled thin and served with dhal or curry.
The poster gathers those dishes as they are actually eaten: hawker stalls, mamak stalls open late, kopi with condensed milk, teh tarik pulled frothy between two cups.
Breakfast is coconut rice in a banana leaf. Lunch is curry over rice. Supper is noodles at midnight.

Chapter Two
Printed in black, printed in white
The Malaysia print comes two ways: black for darker kitchens and hallways, white for bright walls and daylight. The illustration stays the same — laksa, nasi kandar, cendol, satay, kuih and kopi named one by one.
